Spirit Airlines Investigates US Airways Runway Accident
Spirit Airlines said Wednesday it completed its preliminary internal investigation into an incident on New Years Eve where one of its planes made contact with a parked US Airways aircraft.
The Spirit Airbus A320 made contact with a parked US Airways A320 while taxing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. The carrier determined the pilot was not advised by air traffic control of the parked aircraft, and officials have informed Spirit that the control tower was not aware of the other aircraft either.
No passengers were injured during the incident, and Spirit’s aircraft has returned to service following minor repairs. The National Transportation Safety Board will not be investigating the incident due to the minor nature of the incident.
