Serbia Achieves Upgraded Aviation Safety Rating

Woodrow Bellamy III

[Aviation Today June 27, 2014] Serbia has been granted an upgraded aviation safety rating by the FAA. The agency upgraded the eastern European country's rating from a Category 2 to a Category 1.

The upgrade was issued based on an assessment of the safety oversight provided by the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia, completed by the FAA in March.  Category 1 ratings are indicative of a civil aviation authority complying with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Additionally, the upgraded rating will allow Serbian airlines to increase their number of scheduled flights to the United States. Currently, there are no carriers providing service from Serbia to the U.S.
