The Senate committee that oversees transportation issues has scheduled a confirmation hearing next week for President Obama's Transportation Secretary nominee, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx.
Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) has scheduled the hearing for May 23.
Foxx was nominated in April to replace retiring Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) recently met with Foxx to express the need for the potential transportation chief to focus on expanding the in-flight use of personal electronic devices for commercial airline passengers.
If the nomination is approved by the Transportation Committee, Foxx will then have to be confirmed by the full Senate in a vote following next week's hearing.
