[Avionics Today 09-04-2015] STG Aerospace has secured a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its liTeMood Light-Emitting Diode (LED) cabin lighting system on the Boeing 737NG. This milestone is part of the company’s strategic plan to certify liTeMood for global coverage and was achieved following selection by Miami Air International to retrofit liTeMood on its 737-800 aircraft.
LiTeMood is a plug-and-play, programmable, LED cabin lighting system that enables airlines to bring the lighting quality of non-LED equipped aircraft cabins up to a standard comparable with the very latest new aircraft. The system offers increased reliability over traditional lighting systems, thereby reducing ongoing maintenance costs while also delivering environmental benefits. LiTeMood is up to 40kg lighter than original-fit fluorescent lighting, and it consumes 70 percent less power, increasing both the aircraft’s fuel and electrical efficiency.
“Whilst liTeMood® has been successfully installed on many airlines in Europe and Latin America, the Miami Air installation is our first U.S. award and validates our installation benefits and customer value,” said Marcus Williams, STG Aerospace’s director of global sales.
STG Aerospace recently opened a new facility for its U.S. operation. Located adjacent to Miami International Airport, the facility has double the manufacturing and warehousing space of its previous U.S. site.
