Qantas Firms Order for Bombardier Q400s

Australian carrier Qantas Airways placed a firm $98 million order for three Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft.

The Q400 order will expand the regional carrier’s fleet to a total 31 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft.

Qantas also announced its decision to lease an additional five Boeing 717s.

“Over the past five years we’ve invested in our successful domestic airlines to support business travel between major capitals and regional communities, as well as in the fast-growing intrastate markets of Queensland and Western Australia,” said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce. “This expansion to our fleet of 125-seat Boeing 717s and 74-seat Q400s gives us flexibility to pursue growth opportunities in a range of short-haul markets.”

The new Q400s and 717s are scheduled for delivery to Qantas starting from the second half of 2013. More
