The jet, the Navy's first fifth generation F-35 production aircraft, will serve as a training aircraft for both pilots and maintainers with the Strike Fighter Squadron 101 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
Lockheed Martin Vice President Lorraine Martin said the aircraft carrier variant of the F-35 "will revolutionize forward based combat power in current and future threat environments."
Compared to other F-35 variants, the F-35C has the greatest internal fuel, larger wings and more durable landing gear. Lockheed is scheduled to deliver four additional carrier variants to the Navy later this year.
