The jet, the Navy's first fifth generation F-35 production aircraft, will serve as a training aircraft for both pilots and maintainers with the Strike Fighter Squadron 101 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
Vice President Lorraine Martin said the aircraft carrier variant of the F-35 "will revolutionize forward based combat power in current and future threat environments."
Compared to other F-35 variants, the F-35C has the greatest internal fuel, larger wings and more durable landing gear. Lockheed is scheduled to deliver four additional carrier variants to the Navy later this year.
