NTSB Issues Safety Recommendations for Beechcraft 1900D

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued three safety recommendations to Hawker Beechcraft to address fatigue cracks of nose landing gear (NLG) end caps on their 1900D airplanes.

NTSB’s recommendations come following its investigations into three recent incidents where the main landing gear (MLG) collapsed, and two hydraulic leaks discovered by operators of the 1900D. An investigation into one of the incidents — a May 2011 landing at Denver International Airport — resulted in the agency determining that the MLG on the airplane collapsed as the result of fatigue failure of the NLG end cap.

The other two incidents are still under investigation.

The board is recommending that Hawker Beechcraft determine the fatigue life limit of the Beechcraft 1900D NLG end cap, and subsequently implement a replacement plan for all 1900D NLG end caps based on the life limit.
