Lufthansa Technik Switzerland Announces Closing

The Lufthansa Technik group announced it will be closing its two line maintenance and logistics services businesses for Lufthansa Technik Switzerland (LTSW) in April.

LTSW announced in May 2012 that it would reduce its workforce from 304 to 82 employees, and focus exclusively on line maintenance, light base maintenance and logistics services for customers at EuroAirport Basel. The company acknowledged a reduction in the demand for maintenance of regional aircraft and the difficult market situation last year when announcing the job cuts as well.

In a statement Monday, LTSW said it “has been unable to sustain its operations” and the plant closure will lead to 31 redundancies, with another 29 employees possibly staying on as employees of SWISS at the Basel facility.

"Due to the fall in demand and the associated decline in our customer base, closing the facility was sadly unavoidable. In particular, it goes without saying that we regret the associated consequences for our employees and we are making every effort to support them where possible,” said Rainer Lindau, CEO of LTSW.
