Largest U.S. Airlines Report Profitable Third Quarter
The largest scheduled passenger airlines reported profitable operating margins in the third quarter, according to a report released by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
Ranked by total number of passengers in the third quarter, the 10 largest U.S. air carriers posted a combined profit of $2.4 billion. Delta reported the highest total operating profit at $1.4 billion, and carried the second highest number of passengers, trailing Southwest in that category.
According to a recent report by the International Air Transportation Association, U.S. airlines are projected to lead the global industry in terms of net profits in 2013. More
