LAPD, Alaska, San Antonio Police Lean on Eurocopter
American Eurocopter's role for U.S. law enforcement is increasing, as the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) teamed up with the company to conduct a training program, while two other city police departments selected its rotorcraft for air operations recently.
LAPD Air Support Division pilots have been training at American Eurocopter's flight training facility in Grand Prairie, Texas since December. The pilots have been using an AS350 flight simulator to train for bad weather conditions and controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).
The department is also using an online course at its training facility in LA, to increase the offerings available for AS350B2 pilots. LAPD's unique training efforts will receive recognition from American Eurocopter at the Airborne Law Enforcement Association (ALEA) annual conference and exposition in Orlando, beginning Wednesday.
Additionally, American Eurocopter recently handed over an AS350B3e to the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the latest jurisdiction to take delivery of the helicopter.
On Tuesday, the company announced the purchase of two Eurocopter EC120 helicopters by the San Antonio Police Department, part of an modernization effort for its fleet of patrol helicopters.
