ICAO: Annual Passenger Total Approaches 3 Billion
ICAO released preliminary figures on global scheduled air transport services showing about 2.9 billion passengers using air transport services in 2012.
The organization said total annual passenger traffic increased 5 percent from 2011, lead by the Asia-Pacific region, which carried about 30 percent of passengers in 2012.
ICAO also noted domestic air traffic in Europe declined due to the “deteriorating national and regional economic environment” that caused a significant decline in demand for many European carriers.
International air cargo traffic declined by about 1.2 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, a reflection of a slower growth in global trade, ICAO said.
