GX Aviation Avionics Finalized

[Avionics Today February 7, 2014] Honeywell and Inmarsat have finalized the Critical Design Review (CDR) for the aircraft avionics of GX Aviation.

In October, Honeywell signed an agreement with ARINC to bring Inmarsat's GX Aviation — which uses Ka-band satellites to provide higher in-flight connectivity speeds — to the business aviation market. Honeywell and Inmarsat then announced the launch of the first of three satellites for the Global Xpress constellation network for the GX Aviation program in December.

Both companies are promising to deliver "home equivalent" in-flight connectivity speeds for both passenger aircraft and business jets with launch of GX Aviation scheduled for 2015.

"A comprehensive team from both Inmarsat and Honeywell has completed its analysis of every aspect of Honeywell’s satcom system to ensure it meets all our design criteria. We are confident that the Honeywell avionics, like the rest of the GX Aviation program, will be ready for service launch in 2015,” said Miranda Mills, president, Inmarsat Aviation.
