[Avionics Today April 23, 2014] Canadian avionics manufacturer Flyht’s Automated Flight Information Reporting System (AFIRS) has achieved 1 million flights onboard aircraft.
The AFIRS system was first introduced in 2005, and has been installed on over 400 aircraft with 40 different operators. Flyht is currently seeking additional certifications for the next generation version of the original AFIRS 220, the AFIRS 228, which brings voice and data services to the platform over Iridium's satellite network.
Bill Tempany, CEO of Flyht, said the company is looking to bring additional applications to the AFIRS in the near future as well.
"The steady growth of flights is exciting. The value received by our customers using AFIRS continues to grow as we add services to our existing applications. Flyht's focus for the coming years will be to increase the applications available to our customers and the value we can bring to them on each and every flight," said Tempany.
