Embraer will begin assembly of it’s A-29 Super Tucano light attack jet at a Jacksonville, Fla., facility in January, the company said Monday.

The Brazilian manufacturer said it remains on track to begin deliveries of the Super Tucanos to the Afghan Air Force in mid-2014, a requirement of the light air support (LAS) contract it won earlier this year.
Afghanistan’s air force is looking to use the Super Tucono for light air support, reconnaissance and training capabilities for its military pilots.

Under the contract, Embraer will provide the U.S. with 20 Super Tucanos.
