DHL to Provide Airbus Production Deliveries

Woodrow Bellamy III

[Aviation Today June 23, 2014] DHL has signed a new agreement to provide aerial transportation of A320 family aircraft components from the Airbus production site in Hamburg, Germany to the company's final assembly line in Mobile, Ala.  The shipping process will span nearly 5,000 miles, DHL Global Forwarding CEO Christoph Remund said.

Airbus plans on opening the new assembly plant — its first U.S.-based production operation — in 2015. Under the agreement, DHL will provide transportation of all major aircraft components including rear fuselage, forward fuselage, wings, and the vertical as well as horizontal tail plane.

“At DHL Global Forwarding we understand that the Airbus A320 family is the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family and is comprised of high value equipment that must be handled with extreme care to ensure optimal performance,” said Remund.
