Cessna Receives Russian Order for 79 Skyhawks

Russian flight training provider ViraZH placed an order for 79 Cessna 172 Skyhawk piston-engine aircraft at the JetExpo show in Moscow Friday.

The order is worth about $22.9 million at current list prices. ViraZH is looking to replenish its fleet of training aircraft with the Skyhawks at flight schools throughout western Russia. The 172 first entered service in 1955, and Cessna has upgraded the airframe and avionics over the years, including the most recent implementation of the Garmin G1000 all-glass integrated flight deck.

Friday's order augments an additional 11 Skyhawks purchased by ViraZH in 2011, according to Kriya Shortt, senior vice president of sales at Cessna.

Cessna expects to deliver all 79 aircraft by the third quarter of 2014.
