The airframe manufacturer plans to increase the rate to 10 per month by the end of 2013.
Airlines recently began installing Boeing's redesigned lithium-ion battery system, and have begun returning the Dreamliner to commercial service. United Airlines, the only U.S.-based carrier operating the aircraft, has targeted May 20th as its date to return its 787 fleet to service.
