Airbus Begins A320neo Production
As the 2012 Farnborough Air Show begins, Airbus announced it has officially begun the production phase of its A320neo aircraft.
Airbus began the machining phase of the first engine pylon for its A320neo; the pylon incorporates more titanium and some of the advanced architecture of the A380 pylon while retaining a lot of the same features of the existing A320 pylon design concepts, the company said.
“This first metal cut of the engine pylon component for the A320neo heralds the completion of the design phase and start of production for the world’s fastest selling airliner. We are excited to be already starting manufacture of the world most eco-efficient single-aisle airliner today,” said Tony Williams, executive vice president of programs at Airbus.
Airbus expects the new engine option for the A320neo to enter into service in 2015. The airframer has confirmed more than 1,400 orders of the A320neo since its launch in 2010.
