Rotorcraft

About this study/key findings:

This is the fastest growth market in Teal Group’s coverage universe. High military demand (largely for force mobility) is the leading driver, but the long-stagnant civil sector is growing to a new level too.

Teal Group forecasts production of 12,643 rotorcraft worth $138.7 billion between 2007 and 2016. This includes 7,138 machines for civil users, worth $28.9 billion, and 5,505 military machines worth $108.8 billion.

These numbers understate the actual importance of this market. Very high levels of utilization in tough operating environments, coupled with aging fleets, mean strong and profitable aftermarket work for the primes.

There are five major primes in this industry. They will hold 97% of the market by value during our forecast period. Very high barriers to market entry remain firmly in place. The other niche and marginal players will not go away, but generally do not offer attractive acquisition targets for the big players.
