G500H-Modified R44s Enter Service at Bristow Academy
Bristow Academy has introduced first four R44 Raven 1 trainers into service with Garmin G500H glass cockpit upgrades. The training helicopters will combine inputs from GPS, magnetometer and air data computer via the Garmin Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS).
According to Matt Rhodes, offshore operations manager at Bristow, the new glass cockpit-equipped R44s will help students better transition into careers, as his North Sea clients are now favoring the “latest technically advanced helicopters” for their missions.
Earlier in August, Bristow Academy presented former student Michael Campbell for safely landing his helicopter near the Hudson River after it lost power while flying on a chartered sight seeing tour.
