Rotorcraft Report: AF Chief—Kite Caused Philippines Huey Crash
MILITARY/TRAINING
The head of the Philippines Air Force says a child’s kite was responsible for the April 28 crash of one of its Bell Helicopter UH-1Hs that killed nine people.
Lt. Gen. Horacio Tolentino reported a survivor told him the aircraft was flying on a training flight and about to land on the island of Cebu when a kite string became entangled in the rotor blades. He said nylon string was found tangled just below the main rotor. The Huey crashed on a street, killing seven people and two crewmembers.
