The Royal New Zealand Air Force will replace it fleet of Sioux with
AgustaWestland A109s as its training and light utility helicopter. New Zealand's cabinet has approved the acquisition of five A109s. The defense minister, Phil Goff, reportedly hopes to have a contract signed early next year and to have the new helicopters enter service in 2010. The Sioux is a version of
Bell Helicopter's Model 47.
