Rotorcraft Report: CAE to Build NH90 Maintenance Trainers
CAE will develop virtual training systems for the instruction of German military maintenance crews on the NH Industries NH90.
The Montreal-based company won the contract from Helicopter Training Media International GmBH, a 50/50 joint venture it set up with Thales to serve as prime contractor on the NH90 maintenance training program, including full-mission simulators, rear crew trainers, and virtual maintenance trainers.
CAE will be responsible for developing the NH90 virtual maintenance trainer software, simulation-based maintenance training courseware, instructor-operated stations, and a training management system. CAE, along with Thales Services, Rheinmetall Defense Electronics, and Eurocopter, will provide a total maintenance training solution. The virtual trainers will be designed to offer representations of all NH90 systems and allow all maintenance personnel to diagnose and troubleshoot problems. More than 650 failure scenarios and malfunctions are to be included in the NH90 trainers. Maintenance personnel should be able to practice appropriate repair procedures virtually. The trainers are scheduled to be delivered to German army and air force bases in Fassberg and Kaufbeuren in early 2009.
