Turkey May Scrap Attack Helo Buy Again

A decade after Turkey formally launched a competition to buy scores of attack helicopters, it is again preparing to scrap the second international contest for the program, according to the Turkish Daily News. AgustaWestland’s A129 Mangusta International and South African Denel Aviation’s Rooivalk have been short-listed for the $1.5-billion contract, with a planned initial order of 30. But the Turkish military reportedly doesn't like their solutions. “None of the short-listed solutions fully satisfies the end-user,” one defense official told the newspaper. “We may renew the competition, or go for an off-the-shelf purchase.” Turkey's top governmental panel overseeing procurement decisions will convene Dec. 12 to discuss the program.
