Turbomeca Plans Parts-Production Site in U.S.

Look for Turbomeca to set up a new parts-production plant in the United States to satisfy requirements of the U.S. Army’s Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) contract. Its Turbomeca USA affiliate is to provide Arriel 1E2 engines for the Eurocopter EC145s that the Army picked. Up to 352 aircraft deliveries are envisioned under the LUH program, whose June 30 contract award is being protested by MD Helicopters and AgustaWestland. The winning bid by EADS North America calls for the aircraft to be 70 percent U.S.-made within three years of contract award, which is a key drive in Turbomeca’s plan for a parts plant separate from Turbomeca USA’s Grand Prairie engine assembly and production facility. Look for Rotor & Wing magazine to provide continual coverage and analysis of this unfolding story.
