The U.S. Transportation Security Administration signed a contract for a private firm to do security screening of passengers at New York City¹s East 34th Street Heliport, clearing US Helicopter Corp. to expand its shuttle service to there. The contract with McNeil Security is under the agency's Screening Partnership Program, which covers private screening at six fixed-wing airline airports in the United States. US Helicopter will pay for the screening. "The new commercial helicopter service from the East 34th Street Heliport will fall under the same security regulations as all commercial flights in the United States," said Douglas Hofsass, the TSA federal security director responsible for that and the Downtown Manhattan Heliport and LaGuardia Airport. US Helicopter currently operates 240 weekly flights between the Downtown Manhattan Heliport, JFK International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, and Bridgeport Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Connecticut.
