Sikorsky Unveils Electric Helicopter

With an official introduction Thursday at Oshkosh, Sikorsky Innovations took the wraps off Project Firefly, a 100 percent electric-powered rotorcraft demonstrator. The helicopter design is based on the S-300C with an electric engine and digital controller from Torrance, Calif.-based U.S. Hybrid, and an energy storage system from Gaia. Eagle Aviation Technologies of Hampton, Va. assembled and modified the Firefly demonstrator.
