Sikorsky Innovations Completes Vibration System Test

Sikorsky Innovations has completed rig testing of a hub mounted vibration suppression system (HMVS) designed to eliminate vibration for a smoother ride. The effort is jointly funded by Sikorsky and the Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD). Sikorsky says this system weighs less than conventional systems and combined with other technology such as Sikorsky’s active flap technology could make for a “jet-smooth” ride. They hope to install and test fly the system in the next 12 months. “Vibration, even at the low levels Sikorsky has been able to achieve, takes a toll on crew and passengers as well as the aircraft,” said Mark Miller, vice president, research and engineering. “With HMVS…operating costs will decrease because equipment will last longer in a virtually zero-vibration environment.”
