No CSAR-X Award Until December?

Competitors for the U.S. Air Force's $10-billion-plus Combat Search and Rescue-X contract don't expect an announcement of a new winner until December. Program leaders at Boeing and Lockheed Martin (which is partnered with AgustaWestland and Bell) said at an Air Force Assn gathering in Washington that they see service officials sticking to a picking a winner in the next month or so. Considerations that may delay official word of a winner include an effort to thoroughly vet the decision (since the last two CSAR-X decisions were overturned on protests from Lockheed and the third competitor, Sikorsky Aircraft) and the desire to keep the program out of the headlines until after the U.S. presidential election in November.
