Low-Altitude AW139 Trials Continue

The Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) has completed the first stage of qualification and authorization tests as part of an effort to establish a low-altitude instrument flight rules (IFR) route between Turin and Venice. The route crosses the Pianura Padana (Po Valley) in Italy. The Italian Company for Air Navigation Services (ENAV) provided tracking services and evaluated radar coverage for the 210-nm (385-km) route. The tests are part of a larger initiative to create a network of low-level IFR routes for helicopter operations below the medium-level IFR routes for fixed-wing aircraft.
