Members of the city council of Rockford, Ill. are debating whether or not to authorize $100,000 to fund a helicopter service that local law-enforcement agencies could share. The money would be used to refurbish and equip old U.S.
military helicopters that could be used during search-and-rescue missions and other
law enforcement pursuits. There would be no charge for the use of the helicopter, although municipalities would be asked to donate funds for equipment and maintenance costs.
