Helicopter Shortage Hurts Peacekeeping Efforts
A shortage of helicopters is hindering peacekeeping efforts around the world, according to the news service Reuters. The problem is a combination of a straightforward lack of vertical-lift helicopters, a reluctance of countries to pay for the deployment of helicopters they do have, a years-long backlog in the delivery of new ones. Reuters says recent appeals for helicopters by the United Nations, NATO and European Union mission commanders “have faced a deafening silence, forcing planners to study second-best options, such as rent-a-chopper‚ deals with the private sector.” For related news
