CH-46 Sea Knight: 45 Years & Counting
Boeing held a ceremony last week to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the CH-46 Sea Knight’s initial flight. The helicopter, which is still in operation with the U.S. Marine Corps, is no longer in production. However, Boeing still maintains the 168 CH-46s that are in active service. Also known as the “Phrog,” the Sea Knight has served as a medium-lift assault helicopter for USMC since 1964. Average age of the remaining in-service CH-46s is 35 years. The MV-22 Osprey is the Sea Knight’s replacement in military service.
