Bell Union Workers End Strike

A strike involving Bell Helicopter employees that are members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union came to an end on Wednesday with a vote to ratify a new contract. (More) The UAW Local 218 vote — 1,355 for the agreement and 646 against — brought an end to the six-week strike, in which talks broke down several times between Bell and union leaders. “We just felt that we needed to get our folks back to work and out of that 105-degree weather,” Gary Livingston, a member of the Local 218 bargaining committee, told the Dallas Morning News. The contact calls for three percent raises in the last three years of a four-year deal and signing bonuses of $4,500. Work is scheduled to restart on Monday, July 27.
