After initially pointing to mechanical failure as the cause, U.S. officials in Iraq now confirm that a U.S. Marine Corps CH-46 that crashed Feb. 7 was shot down. The crash killed all seven aboard the Sea Knight. The crew of an AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter escorting the Sea Knight did not witness the actual attack, but saw the resulting fire, descent and crash. The CH-46 becomes the eighth U.S.
military helicopter confirmed as shot down in Iraq since Jan. 1.
