Voters isolated by a damaged bridge and precarious roads on the Hawaiian island of Maui will be casting their votes in the U.S. congressional election using ballots flown in by helicopter. The ballots will be sealed in envelopes after they are cast Nov. 4 and counted on Nov. 7, the same day as the general election for the rest of the nation. Officials blocked off Paihi Bridge, whose foundations were ready to collapse following two earthquakes and torrential rains in mid-October. That cut off the towns of Kipahulu and Kaupo impacting about 80 voters. Two election officials will fly into Kipahulu by private helicopter to assist in the voting.
