Turkish Helicopter Tender Nears End

Turkey plans to finalize details of its Attack/Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopter (ATAK) project at this month’s meeting of its Defense Industry Executive Committee, according to the head of the nation’s Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry. Turkey is in final negotiations with Denel of South Africa, pitching its AH-2A Rooivalk, and AgustaWestland, offering its A129 Mangusta International, for the country's Land Forces Command's ATAK Project. The project has been delayed for 10 years, in part because of Turkey’s insistence that it build the mission computers and software for the aircraft. The winning bidder should get a contract for 30 aircraft, with options for 20 more. More
