The Pentagon has approved the withdrawal 20
AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from South Korea for redeployment to locations in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2009. According to U.S. Army officials in Seoul, a second 20-aircraft Apache battalion will remain in South Korea. The U.S. Air Force will replace the Middle East-bound helicopters with 12 A-10 attack jets and two MH-53 helicopters. The U.S. maintains a
military presence in South Korea in support of that government’s efforts to prevent aggression from communist North Korea.
