The Colonie, N.Y. Town Board voted unanimously to continue, through the end of the year, allowing local paramedics and emergency staff to provide services using state police helicopters. After the extension ends in December, the board will conduct a financial review before considering any other extensions. The program was originally cancelled in July due to costs, liability and the city of Colonie wanting to keep its responders close to home. During local debates dozens of EMS, paramedics and others spoke in favor of the program and how it has saved lives.
