U.N. Helicopter Relief Runs Low on Funds

The United Nations World Food Program is running out of money to run helicopter emergency-relief operations. The Rome-based agency's efforts to fly relief supplies to cyclone victims in Myanmar "will all grind to a halt by the end of this month unless we get additional funding now," said its country director for Myanmar, Chris Kaye. The program has only received about half of the $50 million needed for the operation, he said. Myanmar's military regime cleared the agency May 16 to bring in 10 helicopters for the relief effort.
