V-22s Scouting for Marines in Iraq

U.S. Marine Corps MV-22s in Iraq in the last couple of weeks have begun flying aerial scout missions in support of raids in Al Anbar province. That’s according to the Marine commandant, Gen. James Conway, who met with reporters at the Pentagon yesterday. While raids have become less frequent, he said, the Ospreys are demonstrating one of their advantages. "The 22 is very quiet," Conway said. "It's an added advantage when it comes to getting troops on the ground without hearing a helicopter coming from a couple miles out."  He said the Bell Helicopter/Boeing aircraft of Marine Medium Tilt-Rotor Sqdn. 263 (VMM-263) have maintenance rates "about where we would want them to be." The Osprey's mission profile "is precisely that of the aircraft it's replacing"--the Boeing CH-46E and the Sikorsky Aircraft CH-53D. "They're doing everything those airplanes do, except they're doing it three times faster."  For related news

I can truly appreciate the awesomeness of the V22s and its significance in Iraq. I returned from Iraq in October 2007 and I am proud to say I am now a part of the Bell Helicopter team that produces the V-22 and H-1. I am thankful to be able to continue to support our troops, even if I am no longer in Iraq.

I have been at Bell for 21 years and there have a lot people who put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in to this program. I am proud to say I was a part of it and proud to say it flies with pride from Bell and the U.S.A.

As a veteran of OIFIII and having served under the command of the USMC in Al Anbar when things were really bad there, I knew that the Osprey would have this kind of success and perform as advertised. As a Bell employee, I am proud to support the V-22 and the Marines who own them. I only wish that I had been able to see it in-theater before I left!

It's great to see what I've been working on for over 14 years now is doing a great job, just like I new it would! Way to go MV-22s! Please tell the Thunder Chickens hello and to hang in there. We're behind our men and women in the service 200 percent. Also I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Year.
