Silver State Helicopters' Air Traffic Academy to Graduate Students

Silver State Helicopters’ Air Traffic Control Academy will graduate 15 students Oct. 14, 14 of whom have been hired by the FAA. The company opened its first ATC school in New Braunfels, Texas in 2006 in response to the FAA’s decision to hire 12,500 air traffic controllers over the next 10 years. The 12-month program provides classroom training in a simulated environment in combination with on-the-job training. Silver State claims this is the first time the FAA has hired graduates from a trade school and the first time graduates of a trade school have not had to go through the FAA academy in Oklahoma City, Okla. before being assigned to an FAA facility.
