Huey Preservation Group to Hold Reunion

A UH-1 Huey preservation group is holding a reunion this week in Ohio to raise funds and support for their efforts. The group, American Huey 369, was set up by brothers and business partners John and Alan Walker to commemorate U.S. veterans and the Bell Helicopter aircraft they depended on during the Vietnam War. Specifically, it is preserving Huey Serial No. 70-16369 as a flying museum aircraft and Huey Serial No. 63-08803 as a static display aircraft. The group aims to fly 369 at the reunion, slated for Aug. 18-19 at Walker Field in Peru, Ind. According to the group, Huey 369 was delivered to the U.S. Army in 1971 and assigned to the 498th Medical Co. as a “Dustoff” air ambulance in Vietnam. The 498th returned to Fort Jackson, S.C. in 1972. In 1976, the aircraft was transferred to the 3/507th Medical Co. at Fort Hood, Texas. It was sent to the Army National Guard in Decatur, Ill. in 1980, then to the Guard in North Canton, Ohio in 1995 where it ended its military career. The group wants to hear from anyone involved in any way with the aircraft during those periods. Thereafter, it flew search and rescue for the state of Maine. The group acquired the aircraft in 2005.
