Mayor Nixes Second R44 for Topeka, Kansas Police

The mayor of Topeka, Kansas has vetoed the city council’s decision to purchase a new Robinson R44 police helicopter, according to a local television station. Channel 49 news said the city council voted 8-1 to buy the R44 June 26 for $750,000. But Mayor Bill Bunten told council members it was a waste of money. The city police fly a Bell Helicopter OH-58C and took delivery of an R44 with a FLIR Systems Ultra 8500 sensor package this year. They want to replace the OH-58C. For related news
