The Australian government will not kill the Kaman Aerospace SH-2G Seasprite project despite cost overruns of more than $1 billion and delays in getting the aircraft into service. Key problems involved the reliability of an automated flight control system and an advanced radar and weapons capability, including data links to enable the Seasprites to serve as the eyes of a warship 50 km away. The Australian government will continue to monitor the project. Seasprites were initially due to be delivered in 2001. The new delivery date is now estimated to be 2011. For related news
