LEAC Expands Operations in Illinois

The Law Enforcement Aviation Coalition  (LEAC), a non-profit group in Winthrop Harbor, Ill. has acquired three new helicopters which will be made available to law enforcement operations in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. The rotorcraft, three OH-58Cs were donated by the United States military and will be equipped with advanced infrared imaging, night vision goggles and spotlights. All personnel including the police officer and pilots are volunteers. There is no charge for use of the helicopters. One will be based at the Kenosha airport and two are being refurbished. Finding missing people has become the primary mission of the LEAC, although the coalition has been used in firefighting by using infrared imaging to locate hot spots.
