Hillsboro Cited for Alleged Mx Lapses

FAA has proposed $580,000 in fines against Hillsboro Aviation for a series of three alleged maintenance violations involving helicopter operations. According to the agency, an improperly qualified Hillsboro mechanic used the wrong parts to repair a Bell 206 that was subsequently used for more than 100 flights between June 29 and Sept. 9, 2008. FAA also claims that Hillsboro did not perform required inspections on another Bell 206 that was used for at least 430 flights between Jan. 13 and Sept. 7, 2008. The last alleged infraction involved another Jet Ranger that flew under highway bridges in Oregon, violating rules regarding low altitude flight and close proximity to structures.
