MD Helicopters has handed over an MD500E to the Columbus Police Department in Ohio. The helicopter joins a fleet comprising five other MD500Es. The Columbus PD has purchased a total of 12 MD500Es since 1997, and is in the process of replacing its fleet. The city recently constructed an $8-million hangar to support the police force’s helicopter division. The unit flies an average of 800–900 hours per year on each helicopter.
