S-76 EMS Cabin Developed

Under a collaborative effort with Air Methods, Sikorsky Global Helicopters has unveiled an S-76 interior designed for emergency medical services (EMS) operations. Sikorsky’s Engineering division in Coatesville, Pa. began working on the project in May 2009 with representatives from Air Methods. The interior features an Articulating Patient Loading System (APLS), which eliminates back strain when loading a patient, increased storage space on the cabin floor, a lower platform for CPR and various locations to mount equipment, according to Sikorsky. Jim Munda, chief engineer for Sikorsky Global, says the EMS package “addresses the challenge of a number of loading issues and in-flight usage problems that we have been studying.” (From June 2010 Rotorcraft Report)
