Rotorcraft Report: Mounties in Alberta Unveil New AS350B3

PUBLIC SERVICE/POLICE

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta, Canada have replaced their Bell Helicopter 204 LongRanger with a Eurocopter AS350B3.

The Mounties’ helicopter is based in Edmonton and will provide support for police in the south central area of the province of Alberta, including the cities of Edmonton and Calgary. Each of those cities has its own police aviation unit.

It is expected that the helicopter will fly about 1000 hr annually. It flew for the first time March 18, and responded to 12 calls. The Edmonton base has two pilots dedicated to it.

The AS350B3 cost $3.4 million. The acquisition was funded by Alberta and the Canadian national government.
